The Prime Minister met his Baltic counterparts in Tartu (State Chancellery)[21 Nov 2008] On November 20-21 this year, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, participated in the annual meeting of the Baltic Council of Ministers which was also participated by Andrus Ansip, Prime Minister of Estonia, and Gediminas Kirkilas, Prime Minister of Lithuania.
Meeting with Irish President Mary McAleese (President's Chancery)[03 Nov 2008] On Monday, November 3, as part of his working visit to Ireland, Latvian President Valdis Zatlers met with Irish President Mary McAleese to discuss the lives of Latvians in Ireland, as well as important aspects of international policy.
Meeting with the Deputy Prime minister of the Czech Republic, Mr Aleksandr Vondra (President's Chancery)[01 Nov 2008] On Saturday, November 1, Latvian President Valdis Zatlers met at the Rīga Castle with the deputy prime minister of the Czech Republic, Aleksandr Vondra, to discuss opportunities for the ongoing development of Europe and future co-operation between the two countries. The meeting was held during the "Unified and Free Europe: 90 Years of Experience" conference which is taking place in Rīga.
The Prime Minister met the US Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff (State Chancellery)[29 Oct 2008] On Wednesday, October 29, Ivars Godmanis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Michael Chertoff, Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States of America. During the meeting, M. Chertoff affirmed that Latvia has successfully concluded talks on joining the US Visa Waiver Program. The citizens of Latvia will be able to travel to the USA for business and tourism without a visa from November 17 this year.
Meeting with the Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, His Most Eminent Highness, Fra Matthew Festing (President's Chancery)[28 Oct 2008] On Tuesday, October 28, President Valdis Zatlers met with the head of the Order of Malta, His Most Eminent Highness Fra' Matthew Festing, Prince and Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta, Most Humble Guardian of the Poor of Jesus Christ, who is visiting Latvia from October 27 until October 31 at the invitation of former President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga. This is the first highest-level diplomatic event involving Latvia and the Order of Malta.
This week, presidents of Georgia, Ukraine and of the Baltic states take part in the Riga Conference 2008 (LATO)[28 Oct 2008] From 31 October to 2 November in the Melngalvju Nams (Blackheads House), the Riga Conference Europe Whole and Free: 90 years in the making will take place and bring together heads of states, the world's leading academics, politicians, representatives from non-governmental organizations, commentators, and journalists to review significant challenges to the Transatlantic community in the 21st century.
