Latvia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sandra Kalniete meets with the former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

On 29 January 2004, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sandra Kalniete hosted a reception in the Latvian National Opera devoted to the day of de iure recognition of the Republic of Latvia. In honour of this day, a number of Latvia's foreign service members were awarded Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet of Ministers' Letters of Recognition.

Cabinet of Ministers' Letters of Recognition were awarded to:

Einars Semanis - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the People's Republic of China
Jānis Kārkliņš - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the UN Permanent Mission in Geneva
Astra Kurme - Head of the EU Policy Department

Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Letters of Recognition were awarded to:

For contribution toward NATO integration process and strengthening of relations between the Republic Latvia and the USA:

Jānis Eichmanis - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the Republic of Greece
Rihards Muciņš - Counsellor, Planning Unit

For outstanding work in promoting economic and culture projects in Spain:

Ilze Sīle - Secretary, Embassy of the Republic of Latvia to the Kingdom of Spain
